William Charles Compton, 63, passed away on September 20, 2026, after a courageous 5½-year battle with pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP), an extremely rare cancer. But Bill’s life was never defined by cancer. It was defined by the way he lived with curiosity, creativity, adventure, determination, and a deep love for his family.
Born in Champaign, Illinois, Bill made an impression from the moment he entered the world. Weighing more than ten pounds, he was the largest baby born at Burnham City Hospital at the time, a distinction that was always a source of great pride to his mother. He grew into a quick-witted, endlessly curious, and adventurous man who was never afraid to take a risk..
Bill and his wife, Tina, were soulmates who shared 30 years of marriage and built a life uniquely their own. They met at a night club, fell in love, discovered they shared the same birthday, and married on Valentine’s Day in a small, intimate ceremony in Kauai surrounded by their families. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, challenges, adventures, and countless memories.
Bill loved surfing, snowboarding, fishing, and exploring Florida’s springs. He was happiest when there was something to discover, create, experience, or figure out, and he rarely saw a reason to take the conventional path when a more interesting one was available.
He was also a gifted artist. As a landscape designer and entrepreneur, Bill could look at a home or property and immediately envision its potential. Within minutes, he could sketch a rendering that allowed others to see what he had already imagined.
That was Bill. He had a vision for everything he touched.
His greatest source of pride was his son, Cody. Bill was a devoted and deeply proud father who loved Cody fiercely, believed in him completely, and treasured being his dad. Their bond was one of the most meaningful parts of Bill’s life.
During the last 5½ years of his life, Bill faced an extraordinarily rare cancer. Through surgeries, treatments, setbacks, and incredibly difficult days, he met each challenge with determination, wit, curiosity, and an unwavering will to keep going. Those years were part of his story, but only a small part of a much bigger life.
Bill was a surfer, artist, landscape designer, entrepreneur, fisherman, snowboarder, risk-taker, and adventurer. Most of all, he was completely and unmistakably Bill.
Bill is survived by his wife of 30 years, Tina Compton; his son, Cody Compton; his daughter, Lindsay Gonzalez; his sisters, Barb Compton Abney (Dennis) and Kathryn Compton Densmore (Mike); and extended family and friends who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marilyn and Clifford Compton, and his brothers, Keith and Wade Compton.
He leaves behind nearly three decades of memories with Tina, a son who meant the world to him, landscapes and creations that bear his artistic fingerprint, and stories that will continue to be shared by those who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Life honoring Bill will be held on October 24, 2026, at 1:00pm at Resurrection Grace Church, Beachside Campus, 2030 N. Highway A1A, Indialantic, FL 32903. Family and friends are invited to come together to remember Bill, share stories, and celebrate the remarkable life he lived. Additional details will be shared as arrangements are finalized.
The world will look different without Bill in it, but pieces of him will always remain in the things he created the places he loved, the adventures he shared, and most importantly, in Tina and Cody.
He saw possibilities everywhere. He lived adventurously. He loved deeply. And he left his mark.
