Barbara Veronica Tenn, age 91, passed away peacefully on Wednesday November 20, 2024, with her daughters Karen and Rosemarie and son-in-law Wayne by her side.
Barbara was born in Manchester, Jamaica on February 3, 1933 to Inez and Sidney Tenn. Barbara was the second of five siblings. In her early days, Barbara worked in the family store after school and on weekends.
In the early 1950’s Barbara married Frederick Braham with whom she shares 3 children, Melville, Karen and Rosemarie. The family lived in Belize until 1960 when they returned to Jamaica.
After her divorce, Barbara migrated to the United States in 1961 were she attended Wilfred Academy receiving her certification and became a licensed cosmetologist and beautician. Barbara worked very hard as a beautician for the next 5 years after which she was able to purchase her own salon. For the next 15 years, Barbara owned and operated a very successful salon and boutique while her children were still in school.
Once her children were young adults, Barbara took on the next challenge of her life, she returned to school and earned her teaching degree. Combining her teaching degree with her life profession, Barbara became a cosmetology teacher at B.O.C.E.S. high school in Westchester, New York. She taught at B.O.C.E.S. from 1974 until 1982, before moving to Florida. In Florida she was a realtor for Pruitt Real Estate until her retirement in 2010.
Barbara had many hobbies in life and excelled at the ones she was most passionate about. She liked to paint and do needle work, but she was most passionate about photography, gardening, and HAM radio operations. She excelled in all her hobbies. Barbara not only liked taking pictures, she developed her own photos as well. As an avid gardener with a special love for orchids. Her home always had beautiful orchids blooming year-round. She attended and participated in many Orchids shows where she was always a top 3 winner. Her greatest passion was for HAM radio operations. She was a HAM operator for many years and at the age of 70, she obtained her Amateur Extra Operator license.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, son Melville, sister Jean, brother Lascelles, grandsons Howie, Melville and Anthony.
She is survived by her daughters, Karen and Rosemarie, grandchildren, Basheen, Lance, Lamar and Melissa, 12 great-grandchildren, sister May, nieces Moy and Terri. Barbara has many friends who will miss her.
Her viewing will be on December 13, 2024 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at Brownlie & Maxwell Funeral Home, 1010 Palmetto Avenue, Melbourne, Florida 32901. Additional viewing will be on December 14, 2024 from 9:00am until the time of her service at 10 am at the funeral home; followed by burial at 11:30am at Fountainhead Memorial Park.

I will miss those long talks we had in the past sometimes an hour sometime two hours very informative very educational and she showed love all the time no matter what we’re talking about. She’s a very humble and kind we speak at least once a week. If I don’t call she called I will miss her very much and she will always be in my heart.
