Captain Ronald Gordan Butt
Captain Ronald Gordan Butt, age 81, passed away after a long illness on April 8, 2024 in Melbourne, FL.
Ronald grew up on Long Island, NY, where he attended and graduated from Amnityville High School in 1960. He excelled in both academics and sports including wrestling, football and later lacrosse when attending Rutgers University, NJ, where he graduated receiving a BA in Sociology and commission as 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corp in 1965. After Flight Training School he received his wings that included Aircraft Carrier Qualified. Ronald was sent to Vietnam to fly close air support. During his service in the U.S. Marine Corp (1965-1970) Ronald reached the rank of Captain. Many of his friends respectively and fondly referred to him as “Captain Ron.”
Years following are remembered with Ron pursuing his endeavors and traveling many places in his favorite VW camper van.
In 1995, while in FL, Ronald met the love of his heart and future wife, Nancy E Lane. Together, they purchased their forever home in Melbourne Beach FL. During this time Ron took to the road as a long haul truck driver.
After years of being on the road and do to his own disabilities, Ron became active with Disabled American Veterans helping other veterans through the process of receiving their disability pensions. This was his true passion.
Ronald was preceded in death by his father Jesse Butt and his mother Anna Butt.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy E Lane and two brothers, George Butt (wife Linda) of Brunswick, GA and Dudley Butt of Tallahassee, FL.
A Veteran Memorial Service will be held to honor and remember the life and service of Ronald Gordan Butt in the near future. Family and friends will be notified with the date, time and location.
Ronald will be missed and always remembered by those who loved him.
He was a loyal friend, a faithful husband and caring brother.
