Janet “Jenny” Johnston

Born January 6, 1927 in Edinburgh, Scotland
Departed May 13, 2024 in Melbourne, Florida

Janet “Jenny” Johnston passed away on May 13, 2024, aged 97. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, she graduated from Glasgow University. She moved to the United States with her husband, George and their three children in 1964, and after a few years in the Chicago area, settled in Sparta, New Jersey.

Her family was always foremost in her life. As her children grew older, she worked for many years as a librarian at Sparta Public Library. After retirement, she and George moved to Melbourne, Florida, and enjoyed several years of travelling the world extensively. She was an active, involved member of the local Presbyterian church wherever she lived. She lived a long, full life, and her intellect, wit, determination, and positive, loving spirit will never be forgotten by those who knew her. Jenny was predeceased by her beloved George, her parents, and her sisters Barbara and Evelyn.

She is survived by her daughters Shena Scott(married to Steve), of Melbourne, FL and Carolyn Pouncy(Hillard) of Wallingford, PA, and son Bruce Johnston(Jean) of Stuart, FL, along with her grandchildren, Mark Boyd(Jessie), Jenni Boyd, Thomas Pouncy, Shelley Halloran(Kevin) and Greg Johnston(Alice), and great-children Trevor and Aubrey Boyd, Cameron and Fiona Halloran, and Murray Johnston.

In her final days, she was comforted by her faith and the prospect of reuniting with her husband, parents, and sisters, of whom she spoke often and warmly. Her family wants to recognize Shena’s dedication to her care during her later years, along with that of her devoted companions, Debbie, Delane, and Sonia.

A celebration of her life will be planned for a future date.
