Bernadine Olive Hemmerlein, 85, of Melbourne, Florida, passed away on Monday, August 10, 2020 at Hibiscus Court Assisted Living Facility in Melbourne, Florida. Bernadine was born in Dubois County, Jasper, Indiana on May 4, 1935 to the late Edgar and Irene (Goller) Furhman.
She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Alfred. She is survived by her children Brenda Nugent (Scott) of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, Mark Hemmerlein (Karen) of Lynchburg, Virginia, Roxane Brock (James Jr.) of Dahlonega, Georgia and grandchildren: Amanda Nugent, William Nugent, James Brock III, and Isabella Brock. Surviving siblings include Kenneth (Dorothy) Fuhrman, Janice (Richard) Schnarr, Dorothy (Joe) Alford, Georgiena (George) McCord, Linda (James Robert) Rossman, Edgar (Gail) Fuhrman, Sister-in-law Trisha Fuhrman, and numerous nieces and nephews. Deceased siblings include James Fuhrman.
Bernadine was baptized at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Hayesville, Indiana. She resided in Jasper, Indiana for 33 years. There she met Alfred Elmer Hemmerlein, her husband of 64 years. They were married on June 12, 1956 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
Bernadine was a manager with Sears Roebuck Co. in Jacksonville, Florida. She was a member of St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church in Melbourne, Florida where she attended weekly Bible studies, participated in the church choir and the quilting group. She loved family, gardening, and needlework.
