Betty Alderman Coulter

Born on November 3, 1937 in LaBelle, Florida
Departed September 10, 2022 in Palm Bay, Florida

On Saturday, September 10, Betty Coulter, beloved wife, mother, and mamaw passed away. She was eighty-four. Born November 3, 1937 to Marvin D. and Maime M. Alderman in LaBelle, Florida, she grew up in small towns throughout the state as her father pastored various churches. She graduated in 1955 from Jefferson High School in Hillsborough County and attended Lee University during the 1955-1956 school year. Upon returning from Lee, she moved to Melbourne, Florida with her parents to help them in their new role pastoring Melbourne Church of God. She remained in Melbourne and Palm Bay for the rest of her life.

Beginning in 1976, she worked at Hibiscus Daycare first as the kindergarten teacher and then as the director. She retired in 2000. Over the course of her 24 years at the daycare, she touched the lives of the children and workers who came through its doors. She was fondly remembered by many as creating a family atmosphere where kids were treated like they were her own.

She retired to the home in Palm Bay where she and her husband had lived since 1962. At Thanksgiving and Christmas, they opened up their home to friends and family as the gathering place. As many as fifty people would come together to sing, talk, pray, and fellowship with and for one another. Over the years, many individuals have recalled how impactful those times were for them.

She is survived by her husband, Gene, sons, David and Dale (Esther), and grandchildren Bella, Sophia, and Christian. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Lewis and Leland, sister, Nona, son, Duane, and daughter-in-law, Sherry.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee or Shriners Children’s Hospital Florida. There will be visitation for family and friends at 10:00 AM followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:00 AM on September 17th at Discover Life Church 3550 W Eau Gallie Blvd, Melbourne, FL 32934.

The world lost a beautiful person who touched SO many lives over the years, but heaven gained a very special angel! Countless times over the decades, she was there for my family, as she was for so many families! Betty was a faithful and loving friend to my beloved sister, Deborah. Words cannot express my appreciation for her and how much she meant to all of us!
