Dr. Howard W. Pettengill, Jr., 92, of Melbourne passed away on Friday, June 14, 2024. Howard was born in Haverhill, Massachusetts on June 11, 1932 to Howard and Malvina (Fiset) Pettengill, Sr., and was an Eagle Scout, graduate of University of Florida and the University of Miami Medical School, and a retired U.S. Naval Captain. He was married to Ellen (Bennett) Pettengill of Coral Gables, and they and their family eventually settled in Indialantic in 1969 where he worked as a radiologist for 26 years at Homes Regional Medical Center.

After retiring from medicine in 1994, he attended Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Austin, Texas where he received his PhD. in Ministry. Howard received his Holy Orders Sacrament in 1993 and served as a Deacon at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Melbourne Beach, Florida until 2017.

Howard is survived by his son Howard III and grandchildren Katherine, Elizabeth (Sam), Howard IV, and Wesley; his son James (Barbara) and granddaughter Randilynn; daughter, Ashley (John) Galli and grandsons Johnny (Julia), William, Charles, Dominick (Anna-Maria) and great-grandsons Dominick Jr. & George; his granddaughter, Samantha (Brian) Harrison and great-granddaughters Taylor & Chloe; his great-grandchildren Rylan & Abagail Bettin; and his grandson Brennen Bettin.

In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ellen (2021), his daughter Ann Roccon (2022) and his grandson Bradly R. Bettin Jr. (2013).

His viewing and Rosary Prayer service will be Friday, June 28, 2024 from 6-8 pm at Brownlie Maxwell Funeral Home, 1010 E. Palmetto Avenue, Melbourne, Florida. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 3780 South Highway A1A, Melbourne Beach, Florida 32951 on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at 11 am. He will be laid to rest at 1 pm with a graveside service at Florida Memorial Gardens, 5950 US-1, Rockledge, FL 32955 on Saturday, June 29, 2024.
