It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gwendolyn M. Lucas, a remarkable soul who left this world on 27 August 2023, at Viera Hospital. Gwendolyn, affectionately known as “Gwen” was born on 03 March 1942 in Lancaster, PA. She was the cherished daughter of Watson K. Morris and Olive Grace Morris.
Gwen’s battle with lung disease came to an end after a long and courageous struggle. She faced her challenges with unwavering strength and grace. Gwen’s legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Gwen is survived by her devoted husband, Edward R. Lucas, affectionately known as “Bob, who was her rock and constant companion throughout their life’s journey. Her daughter Kimberly D. DiFrisco and husband Donald DiFrisco, along with her beloved grandchildren Shelby Downs Hasselmann and husband Lucas Hasselmann; Audrey Fisher and husband Christopher Fisher. Each of them will forever carry forward Gwen’s spirit and the memories they shared.
Gwen’s love story with Bob began during their college years in Connecticut. Their bond grew stronger, and they exchanged their vows on 26 August 1961 in Lancaster, PA. Bob’s Air Force career took them to various corners of the world, but their love remained a steadfast anchor in their lives.
Gwen and Bob welcomed two beautiful daughters into the world, Kimberly in 1962, and Brina Lynn in 1967. Tragically, Brina passed away in 1973. Bob’s career took them to Lafayette, Indiana where Gwen pursued a nursing degree from Purdue University where she graduated with a 6.0/6.0 in 1975, establishing herself as a skilled and compassionate professional. After the next relocation to Florida in 1977, she dedicated herself to a fulfilling career as a dialysis nurse. Gwen’s professional journey was marked by dedication and compassion. Her commitment to nursing led her to receive a Bachelor of Science degree and work as a psychology nurse. She was the Director of Nursing at Circles of Care and continued her career as she made a significant impact as a Unit Director at Devereux, in Melbourne, Florida.
Gwen’s impact extended beyond her professional sphere. She was a devoted volunteer, engaging with the community through organizations like Yellow Umbrella and the Christian Women’s Club. Her generous heart and selflessness touched many lives beyond her own family.
Following Bob’s retirement, he and Gwen embraced their shared love for travel. They embarked on a journey of exploration, traversing the globe with cruises, safaris, trips to Alaska, New Zealand, and picturesque European castle tours. Gwen’s zest for life and her sense of adventure inspired those around her.
Gwen’s warm smile, unwavering kindness, and boundless love will forever remain in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her. As we say goodbye, let us remember her legacy of resilience, compassion, and the joy she brought to every life she touched.
