Departed July 21, 2022 in Melbourne, Florida

Harold H. “Bud” Smith Jr. passed away July 21, 2022 in Melbourne, FL.
He was born to Harold H., Sr and Jennie (Kouwe) Smith on August 20, 1933 and lived nearly 85 years on the family farm on Ridge Rd above Sodus Bay. After the passing of his beloved wife Lucy in 2017, he moved permanently to Melbourne, FL, where they had wintered for many years.
In his youth, Bud was active in 4-H, and FFA and attended the one room “Brick Schoolhouse” to the 8th grade and graduated from North Rose High School in 1950. He met Lucy when she came to North Rose as a music teacher and they married in 1954. He attended Syracuse University, and in the early 1960’s taught English at Leavenworth High School in Wolcott. Deciding that teaching was not his calling, went back to work on the family farm where they raised five children and too many Hereford beef cattle to count. Following the deaths of his parents in 1987 and 1988, the farm became known as Smith Bros. Farm, ceased raising beef and continued to grow apples which he was chief truck driver and overseer of operations for many years, along with brothers David (Sally) and Philip (Suzanne), sons Alan (Diane) and Steve (Joanne). Also surviving are daughters Cindy and Debbie (Sean) Conboy and son Gordon (April) Smith, and sister-in-law Beverly Verbridge of Rochester. He was predeceased by his sisters MaryAnn and Carol.
In 2018, Bud married Marilyn Standing in Melbourne FL, and enjoyed his last years basking in the warmth, the convenience of concerts and social gatherings, reading and his puzzle books.
He leaves a great number of Grandchildren, Great-Grandchildren, Nieces and Nephews who will forever remember him as a most generous and humble man who never had a mean word for anyone.
There will be a memorial service at North Rose United Methodist Church on Saturday, September 10 at 1:00pm to which all are invited.
Memorial gifts to the North Rose United Methodist Church for Missions would be appreciated by the
family.
