J T Perdue

J “Jay” Perdue, of Portland, Tennessee, passed away on December 28, 2024 in Melbourne, Florida. He was born on March 31, 1928 to Robert Luther and Gladys Maye Sloan Perdue.
He graduated in 1948 from Franklin-Simpson High School in Kentucky and served in the US Navy from 1948 until 1952 as a Yeoman on the USS Cutless. Jay received his chiropractic physician degree in 1955 and served Brevard County, Florida for 38 years. He also served as a Kiwanis International President in 1961 for the city of Eau Gallie, Florida. J later joined the Melbourne Rotary where he was an active member for many yeas. He was an avid golfer, playing with his buddies weekly and he loved to travel around the world.
J was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife Helen Marie (Miles); siblings Oscar (Francis) Perdue of Kentucky, Al (Shirley) Perdue of Pennsylvania, Peggy (Donald) Dickerson of Florida, Vivian (Bill) Durham of Pennsylvania and one daughter Laura Perdue of Texas.
He leaves behind five children Lawrence Reginald “Reggie” (Cosette) Perdue of Palm Bay, Florida, Cherie (Mark) Vergason of Sanford, Florida, Cindy (Ed) Matheson of Palm Bay, Florida, Eddy (Tanya) Hughes of Hawthorne. He was blessed by 8 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and one on the way.
The family will receive friends beginning at 10:30 am on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at Brownlie Maxwell Funeral Home, 1010 E. Palmetto Avenue, Melbourne 32901. His service will begin at 11:30 am. Interment will follow with Navy Honors at Florida Memorial Gardens.
