Jane (Skowron) Gadziala

Born on January 19, 1929 in Frankfort, New York
Departed on February 10, 2022 in Melbourne Beach, Florida

Jane (Skowron) Gadziala, age 93, passed away peacefully at home on February 10, 2022 with loving family by her side.

Jane was born on January 19, 1929 in Frankfort, New York, the daughter of Stanley and Mary (Rogowski) Skowron. Jane attended Frankfort-Schuyler schools, graduating with the class of 1946. She married Rudolph (Rudy) Gadziala on May 31, 1947 at the Scared Heart of Jesus Church in New York Mills, New York. Together they shared a loving and blessed union of over 70 years, until her beloved husband’s passing on October 23, 2017.

After marrying the love of her life, Jane and her husband settled in the Mohawk Valley and started a family. Jane worked side by side with her husband owning and operating several successful area businesses, most notably, Herkimer Wholesale, Inc., Kuyahoora Inn (Poland, NY) and The Wagon Wheel Restaurant (Ilion, NY)

Jane was a devoted Catholic and long-time member of the Church of Annunciation in Ilion and the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Melbourne Beach. In her early retirement years, Jane took a strong interest in art, painting many portraits throughout the years. Many of her portraits now hang in the homes of family and friends.

While being in the restaurant business for many years, Jane developed a passion for cooking and entertaining. This lived on for many years during her retirement. Jane loved entertaining and preparing delicious food for her family, friends and extended family. However, Jane’s true passion was her devotion to family. She cherished every minute spent with her sons, their wives and her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jane, along with her husband took great pride in providing for their family to ensure a long-lasting legacy.

Jane is survived by her three sons, Rudy (companion Jody Janicki) of Ilion, New York, Edward of Vero Beach, Florida and John (Deborah) of Sarasota, Florida. She leaves five grandchildren Michele Gadziala-Luke of Sauquoit, New York, Rudy (Nicole) Gadziala of New Hartford, New York, Reid Gadziala of Vero Beach, Florida, John Gadziala, Jr., of Jacksonville, Florida and Laura (Aaron) Mallory of Denver, Colorado. She also leaves behind four great- grandchildren Sydney (Alexis), Alexa, Marisol and Rosa. Jane is survived by her sister-in-law Gladys Fukes of Florida and many special nieces, nephews and cousins on both the Skowron and Gadziala sides of the family.

Jane was predeceased by her mother and father, sisters Bridget Murdock and Sadie Williams; brother Joseph Skowron and her beloved daughters-in-law Annette Gadziala (Rudy) and Patricia Gadziala (Edward).

In keeping with Jane’s wishes there will be no service. Jane and her husband Rudy’s cremains will be entombed on the family plot at the Armory Hill Cemetery in Ilion, New York. This will take place in the spring at the convenience of her family.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at the Hospice of Health First for the wonderful and compassionate care provided to Jane during her extended illness. Those wishing to make a donation in Jane’s memory, please consider Hospice of Health First, 1131 West New Haven Avenue, Suite 102, West Melbourne, Florida 32904 or the Armory Hill Cemetery Association c/o Rudy Gadziala, Treasurer, 101 Pebble Creek Lane, New Hartford, New York, 13413.

Going way back when the family would get together for parties, wedding and just good times. Growing up in Frankfort back in the 60's and 70's we all relied on each other through good times and bad. I remember only good memories of not only Jane but Sadie and Bridget. The end of a great era and the last of the matriarch's is gone. May my "Aunt" Jane rest in piece. I am the son of Steve Skowron, who was locally known as The Beer Baron in Frankfort, NY

Rudy's Mom (Mrs. Gadziala to us youth of a bygone era) was always loving to us all, especially the three "Barringer Road Boys," Rudy, Jack and Tim. We were always welcome in the busy kitchen of the Wagon Wheel where we could get the best ham sandwich in Ilion, regardless of the time. Many fond memories.
