John Derek Tuer

Born on October 17, 1946 in Montreal PQ, Canada
Departed February 20, 2023 in Palm Bay, Florida

John Derek Tuer, age 76, of Palm Bay Florida, passed away February 20, 2023.

He is predeceased by his parents William and Dorothy. He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years Joyce, sons Eddie and Andrew Armstrong, and his daughter Jennifer Madsen. He is also survived by his brother Col (r) William Tuer MD, sister Linda Tuer, and nieces Josie, Dorothy, Shannon, and Heather.

He was born in Montreal, Quebec, but moved to Long Island, New York as a child. He joined the United States Air Force where he served honorably, before beginning a career as a systems analyst and computer programmer.

John traveled the world, but always came home to the family he loved. He was hard working and intelligent, always up for a good conversation about space, the sciences, and world events. He liked to read, but he preferred to share his knowledge rather than hoard it. Thoughtful and patient, he could always be relied upon for wise advice, witty jokes, or just his unceasing support. He had a kind and gentle soul, being the type of man that air conditioned his garage for a beloved stray cat, and safely relocated snakes and lizards. Even the big ones.

His sweet spirit made him a bit of light in the darkness, and those who knew him were better for it. The world is much duller in his absence.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
