Joseph Michael Mauro 74, passed away on July 12, 2023 in Melbourne, FL He is survived by his wife, Susan Girod Mauro, his son James Mauro and his siblings Julius (Sara), Frank (Linda), Carmella (Lew) and John (Rose) Mauro. One brother, Tom predeceased him. He loved and adored his eight grandchildren: Jordan, Quinn, Doyle, Cameron, Emery, Hunter, Hayden and Finn. Spending time with his grandchildren brought him the most joy.
Joe served for 26 years in the Air Force. He served two tours in Vietnam and a tour in Desert Storm. He retired as a Senior Master Sergeant.
After retiring, Joe spent 17 years at Florida Air Academy influencing the lives of the cadets he mentored. He enjoyed shooting, fishing, swimming, trips to casinos for vacations, cheering on Notre Dame and spending time in his garage
His grandchildren will always remember the summers swimming in the pool and the abundance of ice cream and popsicles he had on hand for them.
A Celebration of life will be held on July 27th, 2023 at 11am at Brownlie-Maxwell in Melbourne, FL. He will be buried at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery.

WHAT A CARING AND GREAT PERSON TO WHOM WE BECAME FRIENDS WITH IN 2016. JOE BECAME CLOSE TO OUR GRANDAUGHTER (SAVANNAH) AND TREATED HER LIKE ONE OF HIS OWN. HE WAS A WONDERFUL MAN AND WILL BE GREATLY MISSED BY US AND EVERYONE THAT KNEW HIM. RIP JOE. WE LOVE YOU. THE KREIGHBAUMS.
