Myrna Lorraine Lisevick

Born August 18, 1928 in Hoboken, New Jersey
Departed April 20, 2024 in Palm Bay, Florida

Myrna Lorraine Lisevick, 95, of Melbourne Beach, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at William Childs Hospice House in Palm Bay. Myrna was born on August 18, 1928 in Hoboken, New Jersey to Henry and Frieda Rexer Verbeyst.

Myrna was the Class of 1942 Valedictorian from Joseph F Brandt Junior High School (NJ). She attended AJ Demarest High School, graduating in 1945, again as Class Valedictorian. Myrna attended Montclair State Teachers College (NJ), earning her BA in Mathematics with a minor in Speech. She received her MS degree in Speech and Hearing from Southern Connecticut College in 1972.

Myrna’s mother, Frieda, introduced her to the New York City theater scene at an early age. After attending productions of “I Remember Momma,” “Cheaper by the Dozen” and “Life with Father,” Myrna fell in love with the stage! Her interest was noted and she was encouraged to sign up for dance lessons in ballet, toe, and tap. She performed in many of her high school/college productions, taking the lead in “You Can’t Take It with You” and “Male Animal.” She was the Assistant Director for “The Ice Man Cometh.”

During her college years, Myrna worked as a lifeguard/swimming instructor at the local YMCA Women’s Division and ran their girl’s summer camp for two years.

Myrna believed in serving her community. She was a Docent at the McLarty Treasure Museum, Sebastian Inlet State Park (FL) and a member of the Scholarship Committee. She served as a Vestry Member and Treasurer at St. Sebastian’s by the Sea Episcopal Church in Melbourne Beach, FL. She was a prayer warrior, a member of St Sebastians’s chapter of The Order of the Daughters of the King. For many years, she worked at The Shop of the Gulls, the Church’s thrift shop.

Myrna never lost her love of word games and cards, especially bridge. She worked her way through thousands of Crossword Puzzles and Cryptoquotes. A Master Knitter, she was hired to knit complicated sweater and dress patterns, as well as baby blankets and prayer shawls. In the last months of her life, Myrna knitted over 24 prayer shawls, distributed to residents of various care facilities. This was her Ministry.

Myrna is survived by her five children: Diane Lisevick and Steven Pardy of Fayston, VT; Frank and Linda Lisevick of Melbourne Beach; John S. Lisevick of Bristol, CT; Martin and Donna Lisevick of Avon, CT; and Kathy Lisevick and Evert Jan Van Vrouwerff of Leiden, The Netherlands. She is also survived by five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at St. Sebastian’s by the Sea Episcopal Church in Melbourne Beach, FL on Friday May 10th at 11am. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that a donation be made to St. Sebastian’s by the Sea Episcopal Church 2010 Oak St. Melbourne Beach, FL 32951.

My very sincere condolences to all the Lisevick Family! Myrna was always a smiling face at Northwest Catholic High School, and one of the most positive people I have ever known

I live down the street from Myrna and had the privilege of helping her keep her house clean for over a year. She was a very pleasant, beautiful woman. She was always smiling and happy. I really enjoyed my time with her. Heaven received a beautiful angel. I look forward to seeing her again. Joanne Spilos.
