Stanley B. Davis

Born on December 18, 1931 in Jonesport, Maine
Departed January 18, 2023 in Cocoa Beach, Florida

Stanley Burton Davis passed away on January 18th, 2023 at the age of 91. He and his wife had recently moved to Melbourne from Niceville, FL, where they had lived for over 30 years.

He himself had said that he lived an interesting and good life, with a family, occupations, and hobbies that brought him happiness. He was originally from Maine. After a period in the Air Force, Mr. Davis worked at NASA (during the Apollo era), RCA, and Harris Corporation. At the latter, his work included being program manager for the updated U.S. – U.S.S.R. “Hotline” in the 1970s, and managing the development of new satellite communication systems for the military, eventually earning the position of VP of Manufacturing. After retirement from Harris, he stayed active by doing consulting, teaching college level courses in business management, and co-authored books on management and ISO standards.

He excelled in many hobbies. He enjoyed carpentry and built pieces of furniture, and once even constructed an elaborate landscape for a toy train. He was also very interested in photography and perfected his skills (with many cameras over the years) including developing some of his photos himself in the darkroom.
Mr. Davis also loved flying, whether it was an actual plane, a remote controlled model, or in more recent years, a computer flight simulator. He enjoyed listening to various kinds of music, from jazz and classical to folk and pop tunes. He appreciated the outdoors, from the oceanside to the mountains. He also enjoyed watching sports and auto racing.

He loved his family and did his best to provide a good home for his wife and sons. He was very good and caring to his extended family as well, and developed many friendships over the years in the many places he lived. He was an active member of various church congregations over the years. He brought many of his engineering skills to his daily life too, and was one of the most organized people anyone could ever meet, with the highest standards for anything he set out to do.

Mr. Davis is survived by his wife Sammie, his son Stanley and wife Nancy, his son Jeffrey and wife Louise, grandsons Louis and Philip with wife Kayla, Jennifer Davis, great grandchildren Louis Jr., Isabel, and Christian, brother and sister-in-law Richard and Charlotte Constable, and niece Cathye Allen with husband Bob, and other members of his extended family and many friends.

family visitation will be from 10am to 11am on Monday January 23rd with military honors and a service to follow at 11am in the Brownlie – Maxxwell Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery on Tuesday.
