Zada Fay Donovan, 94, of Melbourne, Florida, passed on December 1, 2023. She was born on February 4, 1929 in Dothan, Alabama, to Lonnie and Audrey Johns.
Her family includes son James Donovan, daughter-in-law Kimberly Donovan, son-in-law Michael Logsdon, grandchild Matthew Logsdon and great grand children, Hayden, Sloan, Ava, and Alan. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, James, daughter Jane Logsdon and grandchild, Patrick Logsdon.
Zada proudly served her country in the US Navy which included an overseas deployment to Germany. During her deployment, she suffered a service-related injury and spent many months recovering in both German and stateside hospitals. In 1955, Zada honorably discharged from the Navy.
After the Navy, Zada moved to Brooklyn, New York, working for United Clock until 1968. From 1968 until 1976, she focused her attention on raising her two children. In 1976, Zada took a position at what is now Holmes Regional Hospital in the radiology department. In 1984, she moved to Radiation Oncology where she was the office manager until her retirement in 1992.
Zada’s drive and determination to provide opportunities for her family that she didn’t necessarily have in her youth were paramount in all she did. The love and devotion Zada demonstrated for her family can never be overstated and she will be greatly missed.
Family and friends may call on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 from 5 – 7 pm at Brownlie Maxwell Funeral Home, 1010 E. Palmetto Avenue, Melbourne. Her Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1626 Oak Street, Melbourne. Committal and burial, with US Navy honors, will follow at 1:00 pm at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, 5525 Highway 1, Mims, Florida. Please arrive at the cemetery at 12:45 pm and pull into lane A.
