Eleonore Wysocki
Departed March 12, 2024 in Melbourne, Florida
Eleonore Wysocki, 97, died on March 12, 2024 in Melbourne.
She was born in Chicago, Illinois on April 15, 1926 to Sophie and Joseph Kniszweski. Eleonore began working at Illinois Bell at 16 as switchboard operator. At 18 she traveled alone from Chicago to Seattle, Washington to continue working as an operator at the end of WWII. She returned to Chicago a year later, welcoming all opportunities to advance her career.
She married George Wysocki in 1950, and paused her career to raise their daughter Carol. She returned to AT&T, retiring as an engineering assistant in 1983 with 32 years of service. During the early years of her marriage she and George traveled to Hamilton, Canada, the Ozarks, New Orleans, and vacationed in Florida several times. She continued to travel extensively throughout the Northeast after her daughter was born. Her most memorable trip was to Melbourne, Australia, via Hawaii and Fiji.
Eleonore had a natural curiosity and adventurous spirit. She loved reading, movies, and followed current events on the news. Nothing delighted her
more than an evening of conversation with family and friends.
In early 1987, Eleonore and George retired to Melbourne, Florida at Lamplighter Village. Eleonore believed that the time she spent as a resident in this community were the happiest years of her life. She joined the Activities Committee shortly after she arrived, and led the group as President
for 14 years. She served LV2HOA as secretary for 5 years. Eleonore established the Lamplighter-ettes Red Hat group as their first “Queen Mother”. In its heyday, that group boasted 32 members. She will be remembered for her sly sense of humor, love of canasta (and all those who played the game with her), and dedication to the community.
She was preceded in death by her sisters Isabell and Irene, husband George and niece Rita McQuaid. She lives on in the hearts of her daughter Carol; son-in-law Louis Newstrom; nephew Ronald Pavlak and his sons Bryan, Scott and Jason; and nieces Gloria Hughes, Deborah Coloma, Isabella and Cecillia Roeselle, and Cynthia Lunz, along with many nieces and nephews in Chicago, Illinois.
A Funeral Mass will be held for her at Ascension Catholic Church, 2950 North Harbor City Boulevard, Melbourne at 9 am on Saturday, May 4, 2024. Her ashes will be interred at Resurrection Cemetery in Justice, Illinois on Saturday, June 15, 2024.
