Myron Bucholtz
To be able to surround him with love in his last moments was truly a gift; and to love him for eternity is one of life’s greatest blessings. It is with the heaviest of hearts that we said goodbye to the most amazing husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Myron Bucholtz, on June 17, 2026. Those who knew Myron were fortunate to have known a man of immense love, intelligence, kindness, generosity, courage, resilience, dedication, determination, loyalty, and pride. His amazing sense of humor, his positivity, and his love of life and his family made him incredibly unique; and made every moment with him extra special. He was incredibly passionate about spending time with his family and his dog, learning, writing, and having intellectual discussions. Health and fitness were of the upmost importance to him. He was an avid bicyclist and went to the gym regularly, even within the last year of his life.
Myron was a New Year’s baby, born in New York City on January 1, 1940. He and his family lived in Brooklyn, NY until 1946, when his father, Harry Bucholtz, moved upstate to Waverly, NY, to begin his private practice in Dentistry. He attended Waverly High School in Waverly, New York, and graduated in 1956. He started college at Union College in Schenectady, New York at the age of 16, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1960. He attended dental school at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts, and graduated in 1964. He joined the United States Air Force in 1964, where he served until 1966 at Seymour-Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro, North Carolina, and achieved the ranking of Captain. He served in the United States Army Reserve’s 3295th USA Dental Service Detachment in Niagara Falls, New York from 1979 until 1995, where he was ranked Colonel and Commander of his unit. From 1995 until 2000, Myron served in the United States Army Reserves’ USA Medical Support Unit in Webster, New York, where he retired as a Colonel after 22 years of Federal Service. Myron was the recipient of many military awards, including the Army Meritorious Service Medal.
Myron started his own private practice as a Dentist in 1964 in New City, New York, where he practiced for 14 years. During that time, Myron fell in love with his wife, Barbara Bucholtz, who has been the love of his life, his partner, and his best friend for more than 48 years; and has brightened every one of his days. In 1978, Myron and Barbara married in West Nyack, New York, and moved back to Waverly, New York. Barbara made sure that Myron’s life was filled with love, happiness, comfort, laughter, fantastic family gatherings, delicious food, and many pets. Upon settling again in Waverly, New York in 1978, Myron joined his father, Harry, in private practice, on Broad Street in Waverly. Myron opened the Center for General Dentistry on Fulton Street in Waverly, New York in 1981. Throughout Myron’s career in dentistry, Myron formed incredible bonds with his employees, their families, and his patients. His employees loved working for him, he valued his employees greatly, and his close friendships with them continued after his retirement. He genuinely loved getting to know his patients, serving them, and caring for them. After practicing as a dentist for 47 years, Myron retired in 2011.
Myron was an expert in his field, and his love for learning and writing led him to obtain specialized knowledge in temporomandibular disorders (TMD) and the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). In 2007, Myron published articles within the Journal of the American Dental Association (JADA), including “MORE ABOUT TMD” (Volume 138; May 2007), “TMD DEBATE” (Volume 138; June 2007), and “TMJ AND WHIPLASH” (Volume 138; November 2007).
In 2014, Myron and Barbara purchased a home in West Melbourne, Florida. They became snowbirds before settling there permanently. Myron loved to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine in Florida. He spent much of his post-retirement time in Florida reading, continuing to learn, writing, and listening to music.
Myron was predeceased by his parents, Harry Bucholtz and Rose Bucholtz; and his great-grandson, Lincoln Gay. He leaves behind his loving wife, Barbara Bucholtz; his daughter, Natalie (John) DeSisti, of Waverly, New York; his daughter, Pamela Pond, of Sayre, Pennsylvania; his daughter, Rachel (James) Benson, of Santa Ana, California; his daughter, Janelle (Zachary) Sheppard, of West Melbourne, Florida; his grandchildren, Kali Jessup, Jason Gay, Hannah Van Wie DeSisti, Maisie Pond, Nikolas DeSisti, Sophia DeSisti, Harrison Benson, Brody Sheppard, and Claire Benson; and his great-grandchildren, Braylen Jessup, Branson Jessup, Hayden Gay, and Beckham Gay.
In keeping with Myron’s wishes, a private celebration of his life will be held on Sanibel Island, where he vacationed yearly for over 40 years. In lieu of sending flowers, please consider making a donation to Smile Train (www.smiletrain.org), St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (https://www.stjude.org/), or Guiding Eyes for the Blind (https://www.guidingeyes.org/), which are organizations that he was passionate about.
