I believe Charlie was one of the guys that convinced the other members at the time to get the first crane for boat hauling. The first time he was Commodore was I believe in 1988. In 2000 I was the Commodore and Charlie was the Vice Commodore. It was a bit difficult back then to get members to volunteer to be flag officers to take their turn running the club. I said to Charlie, “Are you sure you want to do it again”, and he yep, “if that’s what I have to do to keep the place going”. So in 2001 Charlie was the Commodore a second time. Yesterday I looked at the club camera to see the flag raising ( strange days we’re living in ) and I saw it was pouring rain. It poured on Charlie’s Commodore Breakfast and we could only run out there one at a time to raise the flags. To Charlie it was no big disappointment, the guys just raised their flags and then we went to the bar and toasted all veterans with the clubs best scotch, Johnny Beggs as Howie used to call it. I’m glad we were friends. Bob Meagher
