James R. Kuhn

James R Kuhn passed peacefully at his home on February 4, 2021. Jim was surrounded by loved ones and he was lifted up in prayer by many family members and friends at a distance.

Jim was born October 14, 1934 in Manilla Indiana. He moved to Melbourne Beach in 1962 and lived on Avenue A for more than 58 years. Jim loved the sunshine and the friendly people of Melbourne Beach and he took great pride in caring for his lawn and his home. Jim could often be seen having breakfast with friends at the Sunny Side Cafe/Friendly Toast or talking with friends on a bench nearby.

Jim proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Jim’s life work was in education where he touched many lives. Jim retired from Brevard County Schools in 1995 after working 33 years as a teacher, guidance counselor, and administrator at various schools including DeLaura Middle School and Palm Bay High School.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife Jessee Hobson Barnes Kuhn and his step-daughter Susannah Barnes. Jim considered himself fortunate to find a second love with Billie Davis Kuhn, who died in August 2020. Jim was also preceded in death by his parents Carl and Ela Kuhn, his sister Frances Blount, and his brothers Paul Kuhn and Mark Kuhn. Survivors include sisters Betty Harrison, Ruth Henney, and Esther Kelly, and brothers John Kuhn and Joe Kuhn.

Jim felt very blessed to have a loving extended family including Billie’s three daughters, Debbie Hall, Lynn Pearson, and Karen Sue Simmons, three sons, Floyd Davis, Larry Davis, and Lee Davis and their children and grandchildren. Jim was also affectionately known as Uncle Jim by twenty-two nieces, nephews, and their families.

Services will be held at 1:30pm on Monday February 22 at Coastline Community Church, 409 E EauGallie Blvd, Indian Harbor Beach. Donations may be made to Hospice or an organization of donor choice.

Jim was a kind and caring man. He will be missed by many.
