Born on February 12, 1952 in Charlottesville, Virginia
Departed in Melbourne, Florida on February 18, 2020

Steve Harper was born February 12, 1952 in Charlottesville, Virginia. Steve passed away very unexpectedly on February 18, 2020 at Holmes Regional Hospital due to post surgery complications. He is survived by his son, Ryan, his daughter Lindsay, his sister Betsy Cook and her husband Bill, his nephew Andrew Cook and his family (wife Martha and children Aaron and Charlotte), his niece Kaitlyn Wolf and her family (husband Patrick and children Evan, Luke, and Harper), his niece Sarah Cook, and his brother-in-law Carl Flowers and his family (wife Dawn and children David, Sara, Shelby, and Stella). Steve was pre-deceased by his parents Nancy and Lt. Colonel Harvey Harper Jr. (USMC), his wife Cathy Faye Harper; and his sister Susan Poe. Steve served 4 years in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War. Steve received a A.S. in Electronics Technology from Pensacola Junior College and a Bachelor in Applied Science in Industrial Technology at the University of West Florida. After relocating from Georgia, he was a 30-year resident of Palm Bay. Steve had a very long and successful career in engineering, operations, and quality positions at Rockwell Collins, DRS, and Harris. Retiring from Harris just last year, Steve started to explore the world including trips to Portugal and Mexico as he really had a beautiful perspective on life and wanted to explore the world. In addition to his passion for his family and his career, Steve was an avid musician who played guitar and bass in several local bands including The AK40 Band, It Is What It Is, and Stryker Road. Steve really enjoyed his music and entertaining people.
A celebration of Steve’s life will be held on Saturday February 29th at 2 p.m. at the Brownlie & Maxwell Funeral Home, 1010 Palmetto Ave., Melbourne, Florida

Steve and I were long-time neighbors. He was truly a great listener, friend, neighbor, and father to his children. I am already missing our conversations. Condolences to Ryan, Lindsay, sister Betsy, and the rest of the family. Steve will be missed by so many.
