Teresa Sannino Fekany,93, was born in Naples, Italy on January 24, 1930 to Michele’ and Maddalena (DelFrate) Sannino. She passed away September 20. 2023 in Melbourne, Florida.

Teresa was a lovely lady with a big heart. She was only 5’5”, but commanded respect like a giant. She was born in Napoli, Italy where she spent most of her youth until migrating to the United States. She lived through many challenging times during her youth. Having endured the second world war, she knew what it was to be starving and be bombed sometimes daily. And yet, she always maintained her faith in the Lord and accepted her burden.

She met her husband, Tony Fekany, at the war’s end when the allies entered Naples. He was handing out food and needed supplies to joyous crowds. Needless to say, they fell in love and she came to the United States where they were married. She had six children and went on to have a happy, full life. She was very religious and brought her children up that way/ She loved the Blessed Mother and Jesus. Her faith was very strong and was always praying. She had the rosary in her hands up to her passing.

While she lived most of her life in Florida, her Italian accent and roots always remained strong. She loved to cook for everyone and one of her favorite dishes to offer were eggplant parmigiana, lasagna and pappardelle pescatore.

A love of travel took her all over with her daughter and she went to restaurants with her sons. We can say that she appreciated good food.

She had a total of six children; four boys and two girls and they kept her very busy when they were younger. She had to live through losing her husband at a young age, then three of her children and a grandchild.

Her family includes her sons Donald Fekany and Gary Stephen Fekany; daughter Mary Ann Vargas; sister Fara Sannino Fekany; grandchildren Robert Fekany, Charles Young, Teresa Fekany, AJ Fekany, Patrick Fekany, Lisa Brunn, Christina Fekany, Matthew Tensley and Christian Vargas along with many great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tony Fekany; children Robert Louis Fekany, Patricia Fekany Young and Patrick Lee Fekany; granddaughters Jennifer Young and Kelly Rose Vargas.

Today, Mema leaves three of her children behind, many grandchildren and great grandchildren to continue her legacy. She left many beautiful memories for everyone to remember her by and so many life stories that could be read in some of the history books today.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Melbourne. Burial will be at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, Mims, on Wednesday October 4, 2023 at 1:00 pm.
